Hi Chuah,

Typically they would also require you to do the initial funding to speed up the account approval. To fund your account, there are few methods we generally use:

  1. Direct Transfer via Wise. Pros = Easiest/Simplest way and avoids currency conversion. Cheap conversion rate. || Cons = potential audits in future for transfer into IBKR from non-account owner name
  2. Fund your Singapore Account via Wise / Other Fintech; then LOCAL TRANSFER into IBKR Singapore account. Pros = Cheap conversion rate. Own-name transfer avoiding audits. || Cons = require additional step to convert currency within IBKR (at market spot rate with $2 commissions)
  3. Telegraphic Transfer from Malaysia Bank to IBKR. I don't recommend this - most expensive option of all - with hefty commissions charged by banks + terrible exchange rates (unless transferring above RM50K via Maybank or Premier Exchange Rates)

You can follow the detailed steps here (skip to chapter 3)

Hope these helps!

Cheers
Gracie

Hey David
Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a standard way that IBKR/TSG handles this - everyone goes through a slight variation of journey.

In case if TSG did not reply, one way to help is to CC IBKR in that email (with attachment) to TSG.

Cheers
Gracie

1. Emailed to [email protected] the copy of the completed form and my ID.

2. Created the ticket and I got the response below (within the next min actually).

I guess I have to wait for TSG email and see what they say in the next couple of days.

Hello! Thanks so much for sharing your detailed experience, definitely will be useful to others on the similar journey. Indeed there has been different patterns amongst those whom have went through the entire delinking process - one pattern I noticed is that those submitting passport with the delinking form with matching signature, seems to have skipped some verification steps ?

Not sure if its purely coincidence or signature is one of the things they look out for. As for the pricing structure, for most of us Tiered will come out cheaper than Fixed due to the minimum $0.35 before other fees vs $1.00 fixed.
Unless you trade frequently with large basket size (like >$10000+/- per trade). I haven't run the detailed numbers yet but generally that is the consensus I saw online.

Hope these helps!

Cheers
Gracie

Some background: I have 2 accounts - the 1st under IBKR directly, which I left dormant due to the inactivity fees. And the 2nd is my IBKR-TSG account.

22 July - (1) Raised ticket with IBKR to ask about "full manual acct transfer" between my 2 accounts. Also (2) - Contacted TSG Support to delink the account

23 July - Received the above PDF Form from TSG Support with instructions to attach ID with signature (basically my passport)

25 July - Received reply from IBKR. Manual transfer is subject to review, can take several weeks. Do I want to proceed? I decided not to proceed. Felt delinking would be faster to accomplish.

28 July - Sent signed form & passport to TSG Support. Had to delay a few days while I retrieved my passport from elsewhere

28 July - Replied to IBKR on the previously opened "full manual acct transfer" ticket. Attached TSG's delink form just in case. Clarified I will be delinking and asked if they need to do any transfers now that I am unlinking my account and it will soon be standalone? Basically to verify if Gracie's step #2 above is needed

2 Aug - Received IBKR message in Message Center. Delink was processed on 30 July 2021. Ran a report to verify, it's all correct. No reply on my query on transfers though.

So in summary, my delinking experience seems to be quite different from Grace. Basically:
1. No IBKR transfer review (Gracie's Step #2)
2. No verbal verification of security answers (Gracie's Step #3)

I am also automatically on the Fixed Pricing. Need to switch to Tiered Pricing in the Account Settings. But first trying to calculate which approach is cheaper for my tiny trades lol! Any thoughts on this Gracie?

Thanks

Hi Gracie,

Thank you for your detailed reply, I appreciate it! I have started the process of 'sorry I’m not interested in TSG anymore, bye’ and will see how it goes.

Thanks again.

I have the same situation as Josh. I made the error of contacting IBKR for advice from my TSG-IBKR account. It took them 10 days (and 1 reminder later) to revert to my ticket, just to give me the equivalent of "go and ask TSG"...

Need to retry again from my IBKR account. I'm trying to find out which option would be quicker / easier - manual asset transfer or delinking. But based on the FAQ plus your experiences above, my gut says delinking would be faster.
